Improvement Plan

We recently published an article in Educational Research Quarterly on District and Campus Improvement Plans entitled, "The Effectiveness of District and Campus Improvement Planning". Please see the abstract below.

Improvement Plan Abstract

The state of Texas requires that each district and campus write an annual improvement plan (Texas Education Code, n.d.b). Although this study was conducted in Texas concerning Texas districts and campuses, it would be reasonable to assume that most, if not all, of the other states in the U.S. have similar improvement planning processes. The present study focused on the alignment between district and campus improvement plans and the degree of effectiveness of those plans. The present study found a lack of alignment between district and campus improvement plans, a lack of alignment between strategies and root causes, and that less than half of the district goals/objectives of the plans were met (or improved). The present study aims to provide a lens for administrators and policymakers to look through as they improve this process and make it more meaningful and effective for teachers, parents, and students.
